Profile
The Cliffs of Moher Experience sits on the Atlantic coast of County Clare, close to the village of Liscannor. One of Ireland’s most visited natural attractions, the cliffs rise to more than 200 metres at their highest point, near O’Brien’s Tower, and stretch for roughly 14 kilometres along the coast of Clare. They form part of the Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark.
The site is centred on a visitor centre built into the hillside, with around 800 metres of paved pathways leading to viewing areas along the cliff edge. O’Brien’s Tower, built in 1835 by local landlord Cornelius O’Brien, stands at the highest point and offers a rooftop vantage from which several counties can be seen on a clear day. On fine days the views take in Galway Bay and the Aran Islands out across the water.
The cliffs are home to a wide variety of seabirds, including puffins, razorbills, guillemots and other colonies that nest along the ledges through the breeding season. Facilities on site include cafes, a craft and gift store, toilets, water refill points and information areas, and a downloadable audio guide is available. Tickets can be booked online, and the coastal walk beyond the main pathways gives longer routes for those who wish to explore further along the clifftops.
