Glenn Lucas Woodturning

Glenn Lucas Woodturning is the working studio and study centre of Glenn Lucas, one of Ireland’s most established woodturners, based at Flander’s Cross, Knockclonegad, near Bagenalstown in County Carlow. From this rural setting in the south-east of the country, Glenn turns classic bowls by hand from Irish native timber, work that is sold through outlets around the world.

The centre operates as both a teaching space and a production workshop. Glenn runs an extensive programme of woodturning classes for all levels of ability, offering group tuition and one-to-one instruction that covers tool selection and sharpening, cutting and scraping techniques, spindle and faceplate work, finishing, and choosing and drying wood. Visitors can also purchase hand-turned bowls, woodturning tools, instructional DVDs and gift vouchers.

It is worth noting that Glenn Lucas Woodturning is not open to the public on a casual basis. Classes and visits are by appointment only and should be booked in advance, so it is best to arrange your visit ahead of time rather than calling in unannounced.
