Ramor Theatre

The Ramor Theatre stands on Main Street in the town of Virginia, County Cavan, occupying a handsome mid-19th-century building that was originally a Catholic church. Erected around 1845 and sensitively restored, the building reopened as a theatre in September 1999 and has since become a focal point for the arts in the county.

Now run as the Ramor Arts Centre, the venue is the only professional performance space in County Cavan. Its auditorium seats roughly 200 people, giving performances an intimate quality in which audiences feel close to the artists on stage. The programme is deliberately varied, taking in theatre, music and concerts, comedy, drama, dance and events for children, with both touring companies and local performers featured throughout the year. An exhibition gallery on the upper floor shows work by local and national artists across a range of art forms.

Alongside its ticketed shows, the centre supports community and youth involvement in the arts, including a youth theatre and other group activities. Virginia is easily reached, lying a short drive from Cavan town and less than an hour from Dublin, which makes the theatre a convenient stop for anyone exploring this part of the country.
